Our Story

From breakdown to breakthrough

Erica Djossa, founder of Momwell

Momwell was founded by registered psychotherapist Erica Djossa, MA, RP. Like so many moms, Erica entered motherhood assuming her “maternal instinct” would guide her through any challenges she faced. She had no idea it would be so lonely, isolating, and overwhelming.

She found herself struggling with identity loss, the mental load of motherhood, and the pressure to be perfect. Eventually, she had a breakdown that turned out to be a breakthrough: a moment where she realized that she was suffering from postpartum depression.

But when she sought help, she was dismissed by doctors who assured her that she just needed more rest. Frustrated, Erica pushed to be taken seriously, and finally got the care she needed.

Through that experience, Erica realized that moms deserved more. This gave birth to Momwell: a place for moms to seek support at every moment of their journey.

Message

A word from our founder, Erica

I entered motherhood determined to excel. I believed that if I just worked hard enough, I could handle anything.

What I didn’t realize is that modern motherhood is based on unattainable goals.

In our search for perfection, we hold ourselves up to impossible standards. And when we inevitably fall short of those, we feel like failures.

The day I experienced my breakthrough, I realized I couldn’t keep up the search for perfection. I finally let go of what I thought I SHOULD be and discovered my values as a mom.

Our children don’t need perfect moms. They need moms who are well: physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I hope you know that you matter. And I hope that you begin a journey, not toward perfection, but toward mental wellness.
