About Emily Horton

Emily Horton is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT) with a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International, with further specialized training in perinatal EMDR and perinatal loss. She believes there is no manual for parenting, and that the point is not to have all the answers before you start but to figure it out as your children grow, because as they grow, so do you.

Emily found this work early, starting at eighteen in a residential treatment center alongside mothers and their babies, and she has been committed to maternal and family mental health ever since. As both a mother and a therapist, she keeps babies and children welcome in session, so families can heal without having to solve childcare first. She works with clients navigating postpartum depression, anxiety, rage, and OCD, intrusive thoughts, birth trauma, perinatal loss, the mental load and burnout, boundaries and resentment, and the identity shifts of matrescence.

Her approach draws on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), including perinatal EMDR, alongside Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing, with specialized play therapy training for her work with children and families. She sees individuals and couples, and alongside her practice she teaches and supervises counselors in training. Emily would be honored to walk with you on your journey.
